Witney Festival of Food and Drink

This year's Witney Food Festival will be on Saturday 20th May. Alexander Armstrong is patron of the Festival, now in its 5th year, and will be attending (work commitments permitting).

The venue is the magnificent mediaeval St Mary's Church, in the lovely Oxfordshire town of Witney. The wide variety of producers are all from within a 35 mile radius of Witney. There will also be a Children's Tent, cookery demonstrations, dancing, and snack stalls.

Xander says:
Witney Festival of Food and Drink has gone from strength to strength. It proved so popular – and grew so rapidly – that within two years of the first festival every available inch of St Mary’s and the surrounding area was filled. So, being the foodie’s West Oxfordshire Glastonbury, the onus is now on us to ensure that we focus each festival on exciting new culinary innovations in the area, as well as celebrating the continued success of our many old friends.

Have I Got News For You

Alexander Armstrong will host Have I Got News For You on Friday 5th May, on BBC1 at 9pm.

His guests are Andy Hamilton and Sara Pascoe, both very funny people, so it should be a good show. In these turbulent times though, I don't know whether to hope for a busy news week or pray for a quiet one!

70s Pointless Celebrities, 30th April

On Sunday 30th April at 5.40pm there's a repeat of 70s Pointless Celebrities.

The contestants are Pan's People dancers Dee Dee Wilde and Babs Powell, boxer John Conteh and footballer Alan Mullery, Blake's Seven stars Michael Keating and Jacqueline Pearce, and Martin Lee and Sandra Stevens from Brotherhood of Man.

I remember nothing of this episode, apart from disappointment that Paul Darrow (Avon in Blake's 7) wasn't taking part.

Saturday 29th April's Pointless Celebrities, at 6.30pm, has a global spin: it's an International special.

News Pointless Celebrities, 23rd April

There's no Pointless Celebrities on Saturday 22nd April because football. Instead there's a repeat of the News special on Sunday 23rd, at 5.50pm.

It features Alastair Stewart and Charlene White, Emily Maitlis and Nick Robinson, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, and Rageh Omaar and Cathy Newman. I remember this show: the studio was ankle-deep in competitiveness, desperation to win, and testosterone. And that was just from Piers Morgan.

Pointless Series 17 is go

Pointless returns to new shows on Wednesday 19th April, with the beginning of Series 17.

How long will they be on for? Who knows? Wimbledon doesn't start till 3rd July, and I can hardly think we'll go that long without at least one block of repeats. Fingers crossed for a good long run, though.

Danger Mouse the Third

Crumbs, chief, there's great news for Danger Mouse fans (and aren't we all?) The BBC has commissioned a third series of the murine secret agent's adventures.

The programme, a reboot of the iconic original starring David Jason as DM,  first launched on TV screens in September 2015, and features the voices of Alexander Armstrong, Kevin Eldon, Stephen Fry and Morwenna Banks. Set to air on CBBC in 2018, the next instalment of 26 11-minute episodes will follow on from the second series, which begins later this year on CBBC.
